ARTICLE 1: Coronavirus (COVID-19) & its' impact on the UK Property Market by Shane Hindocha

In these uncertain times, it is important to look ahead, stay attentive and proactively navigate your way through the turmoil.

My name is Shane Hindocha. I am a father, a husband, an active property investor & an entrepreneur. I have lived through 2 recessions already. If we are going down this route (recession) again, a blend of hindsight and foresight is welcomed. Whilst my outlook on life is generally positive, I will remain objective and then form an opinion.

My aim is to break complex information down into digestible and easy-to-understand formats…and in particular, how the current situation will affect property prices in the UK.

So, what is the current situation?

CORONAVIRUS & COVID-19

COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways.

It's caused by a virus called coronavirus.

SYMPTOMS

- a high temperature (you feel hot to touch on your chest or back)

- a new, continuous cough (this means you've started coughing repeatedly)

If you have symptoms, stay at home for 7 days.

If you live with other people, they should stay at home for 14 days from the day the 1st person that got symptoms.

If you live with someone who is 70 or over, has a long-term condition, is pregnant or has a weakened immune system, try to find somewhere else for them to stay for 14 days.

If you have to stay at home together, try to keep away from each other as much as possible (2 metres)

DOs

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth & nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
  • avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus
  • only travel on public transport if you need to
  • work from home, if you can
  • avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas
  • avoid events with large groups of people
  • use phone, online services, or apps to contact your surgery or other medical services

DON’Ts

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
  • do not have visitors to your home, including friends and family

ORIGINS

Earliest case was detected on 17th November 2019 in China.

It emerged as a “novel” strain of the “coronavirus” family (new strain of the coronavirus)

Scientists initially called it 2019-nCoV (year of discovery / “n” for novel status / “CoV” for disease or family name).

It then became known as COVID-19 (“CO” for corona / “VI” for virus / year of discovery)

The actual virus is called SARS-COV-2 ( a new type of coronavirus). The disease it causes is COVID-19.

EPIDEMIC vs PANDEMIC

COVID-19 started as an EPIDEMIC (an outbreak of a disease that spreads quickly & affects many individuals at the same time)

It evolved quickly into a PANDEMIC (a type of epidemic that has greater range and coverage).

WHAT EFFECT WILL IT HAVE ON THE ECONOMY?

First let’s understand some basics…
